I got's me some questions damn it!
Sometimes when you are reading a comic, or watching a movie or TV show you have questions. Questions that are never answered. Sometimes it's because of time, sometimes it's because the writers didn't think it through, so here are a few of the questions that keep me up at night (well that and the insomnia!)
Gremlins-
So you cannot feed the Mogwai after midnight or it turns into an evil reptilan gremlin. but at what point is it safe to resume feeding your mogwai without having the little bugger become a cackling ball of teeth, claws and attitude? Is it sun up? Noonish? What, See now if someone ever give
s me a mogwai, I might have to let the poor little bastard starve becasue frankly I don't know when it's safe to feed it!
Highlander-
So if they loose their heads they die right? what about if you chop em in half? exactly what portion of the body has to leave the cranial region to be considered adios immortal? if he looses his head and shoulders will he spend hours or days in agony as the rest of his body regenerates, or will he just buy the farm right there, what about if we Darth Maul him, then what? hey should I ever need to fight the Kurrigan for the prize this info would be damned important!
Star Wars (Episodes 1-3)
O.K. so if midichlorians are the source of the force the micro organisms that literally do all the heavy lifting in the Star Wars universe, and we know that concentration of them in the blood is important (Obi Wan freaks when he finds out Anican's concentration is even greater than that of fabled Jedi Master Yoda. so then do amount of midi chlorians matter? Sure Yoda could put the smackdown on Anican just on the raw power vs skill in using. (I.E. if vader is more powerful he lacks Yoda's skill with manipulating them) Are some areas more or less force heavy (and would this matter?) when Vader lost about 30-30% of his body in Episode 3 did this affect his ability to use the force if he had less Midichlorians, and if not, Why not?
Field of Dreams-
How the F*** did they mistake this for heaven? I have lived in Iowa for most of my life, don't get me wrong it's a great place to live, but Heaven? really? Oh come on now! drive the boarder any time from any bordering state, Kansas, Illinois, Missouri, take your pick! Do you hear choirs of seraphim or harps when you hit the state line? neither do I.
Transformers (Original cartoon movie, not the Michael Bay crap!)-
how is it that when the Ark crash landed and left the autobots and decepticons in a massive scrapheap within, then some 5 thousand years later was able to build them all good as new from shattered parts. but about 5-6 good hits from Megatron, and Prime dies? Why the hell couldn't the ark/teletran 1 not just reassemble him from the damn blueprints? it makes no GODDAMN SENSE!
Anyway these are the kind of thoughts that plague me, Maybe I need to have a soak in the tub with some Mr. Bubble, and figure it all out...

To boldly sit around....
So I am at the end of a long project. I have been asked, told and even cajoled into this, but after powering through all 7 seasons I can state I have given Deep Space Nine as much of a chance as I possibly could, and still. I don't really care for it.

been a long time, but I'm Back Baby!
So I had another leave from my blog due to internet issues and then life issues on top, but that being said I go away and what the F&*( happened?!?!
First there is this thing about Ben Affleck becoming batman, You know so many people on the internet are freaking out about this one. I'll be fair, he isn't my first choice, but it could be so much worse. However the big scare for me with the new Justice League movies is who they have chosen to take the helm.
Zach Snyder. Look he's much like Affleck, not the worst choice but that doesn't really make him ideal. The oddball homophobic comments in both 300 (Leonidas making fun of the athenians for being both cowards and boy lovers is really odd considering the Spartans were all about fostering young men,) and Watchmen (making oh so subtle hints that Ozymandius was both european and gay, add nothing to the story at all!)make me wince and even without mention of this what he did in Man of Steel really shakes my faith in Superman making a more successful franchise. Wheadon has done an amazing job with the Avengers, and to be fair I am far more of a DC person than a Marvel guy but Marvel has been killing it! DC needs to turn it around and so far Superman/Batman promises to be the next Green Lantern, instead of a contender. People put to much into the actor, Affleck could kill as Batman, he could suck at it, but I will say I have far more faith in him being a good Batman than Snyder directing/producing an incredible movie.
The new 52 strikes again, this time it's the Main Man that they are after. The last Czarnian, Lobo. Now for those of you who do not know who Lobo is and are reading this on my website, I must say "Wow, I am impressed, I would not have expected you to be reading this and not know who Lobo is but anyhoo here he is."
A crude, rude remorseless bounty hunter feared throughout the galaxy, kinda like Boba Fett, but interesting, cool, and actually effective. Also less silent. He's been rather popular in DC since the 1990s, and like many comic heroes has had his ebbs and flows with being popular. That being said, he's not so lame as to need a severe reboot like some heroes, but DC ever interested in reinventing the wheel as of late has given us this...
WHY GOD WHY!?!?! This isn't like rebuilding some lame old character to make them relevant to today's comic buying audience, this is more of the change for change's sake crap that DC has been selling throughout the new 52, well I AM NOT BUYING! The only way I would give a shit about this new design is if it was part of some new 52 parody where Lobo turn's his new 52 replacement into something the consistency of potato salad, and not that fancy stuff you find in delicatessan the squichy stuff you find in cans... So far 2013 is the becoming the year DC went crazy and ruined it's biggest characters.
Then there was this...
So here's my (admittedly late) take. You may have remembered several years ago, Janet Jackson had a "wardrobe malfunction" at the super bowl, and millions were outraged by how she had sullied the family entertainment that was football, you know someone's leg bends the wrong way and the kids should see it a woman's areola will however scar them for life. but at least in this mock outrage it wasn't expected. However the VMA's are always trying to be shocking, Brittany's spear's striptease, and kissing Madonna, having Russel Brand guest host (apparently being funny at W's expense is worth tons of hate mail and death threats). Add to that the predilection of former child actresses to try to prove they are "adult" by some act of sexual display. Alyssa Milanno starred in Bob Guchionni's Embrace the Vampire, and did a nude scene, Drew Barrymore played Amy Fisher and showed Dave Letterman her boobs, Selena Gomez recently in Spring Breakers and let's not forget Saved by the Bell's Jessie Spanno (Elizabeth Berkeley) doing that artistic film called Showgirls. Put these two facts together and honestly I'm more surprised we haven't seen a band do a full on roman orgy on stage. and to get upset or freaked out that a girl who want's to prove she's a woman by being provocative at a venue that is desperate to generate shock and buzz is like freaking out after watching Star Trek: Into Darkness, because a good chunk of the movie took place in space. Seriously people, Damn.
Well That's it for now, I need a shower after all that, Night all!

5 Best Canadian Comedies
A while back I did a top 10 british comedies list and while my love of British comedies comes from living over there, I find it amazing that Canadian TV for the most part was completely under my radar. Sharing a border, a language and even having similar accents (Pre Harry Potter, that "funny accent" of the british was a common complaint I heard when trying to introduce British comedies to my friends) and yet our neighbors to the north rarely get play in the US beyond the borders. There are a few that do (Most notably Trailer Park Boys which gets a by for it's family Guy/Southpark level of humor, and Degrassi which played on public TV a lot) but there is a lot more up there probably even more than this paltry list shows (hence the top 5 not top ten) but there is a lot high quality TV up there, here is just a sampling of my favorites.
5- Little Mosque on the Prairie- Thanks to the miracle of the internet, and Hulu needing some original progamming this show is available readily in the US, I kept seeing ads for it when we were on Hulu, so why not? My wife (a bit of a hardcore catholic herself) fell instantly in love with the series. A small town with a heavy muslim community, the show focuses on Amir their mosques new Imam. It is the kind of wholesome comedy you can watch with the family, except xenophobic uncle Bob who will flat out refuse.
4-Puppets who Kill- A halfway house for criminal puppets may not sound like an appealing concept, but hot damn does this ever work. The group dynamic is pretty spot on and has a great mix of heartwarming and creepy to work. Plus who doesn't like Bill?
2-The Kids in the Hall- One of my favorite sketch comedy shows of all time, the Canadian group brought us so many incredible characters. MC Simon Milligan, and Hecubus, The Flying Pig, The Sizzler Sisters, and let's not forget Buddy Cole. ahead of it's time and still a work of genius, it's no shock that this one was a hit in both countries.
1-SCTV- Saturday Night Live is practically an institution at this point. I doubt it will ever go off the air. with it's 38 year old history, and being a breeding ground for talent from John Belushi to Phil Hartman to Kristen Wigg. But this was the show that the original not ready for prime time players followed. it was the comedian's comedy show. It was also a lot tighter than SNL using the backdrop of a 3rd rate UHF Station run by Guy Cabbelero as a backdrop, the sketches weaved into this tapestry. Even the musical acts were part of the show, as opposed to the SNL let's take a break from the comedy and suffer through the flavor of the month band. the musical acts in SCTV were part of the show. Case in point: John Cougar Melloncamp, appeared in a parody of The Jerry Lewis film in which Ed Grimley (Played by Martin Short) took the potion and transformed into Melloncamp. He then played about half a a song (Jack and Diane) before reverting back to Grimley who tried in desperation to complete the set. and Just like SNL and Kids in the Hall, there were so many damned awesome characters, from Count Floyd, and Johnny LaRue, to the Makenzie Brothers and Edna Prickley. It's Canada's Monty Python. and a true classic.

The League of Extraordinary Bloggers: Jerry MacGuire. (God I hated that movie.)
So the new challange is if I were a sports agent whom would I sign, that would be easy
I would have to start with Jeffery Lebowski, expert Bowler, and If I were to start a team, an excellent coach, the Dude abides, and he has Walter for all the screaming and yelling, and Donnie for all the technical stuff.
As for athletes from the world of Pop Culture, I have quite a few Ideas, First off Bobby Bouche, an incredible athlete, and offensive tackle. A man with strategy (visualize and then attack) and he performs double duty on the field, what's not to like?
Now for my next choice, I am going Olympic, and I want to make it clear that magic is not the same as juicing. I will not abide performance enhancing drugs (but magic potions are not the same) They were a hit at the Olympic Games (Cesear said so) Asterix and Obelix, Olympic champions and definitely not juicing (magic DOES NOT count as juicing!)
Speaking of magic and sports I am also going to claim Harry Potter and the whole Griffyndor Quidich team, it's a rough sport as is but add that he survived attacks by he who must not be named, and live, he could make a mint going pro!
and last (But by no means least) a man who makes Chuck Norris piss his pants in terror, Mr. Brock Sampson! Seriously compare Chuck to Brock, Brock has done way more awesome things (and doesn't have to hock the total gym to make extra scratch!) Stick that in your pipe and smoke it Walker, Texas Ranger!
To mess with one must be suicidal or perpetually inebriated, which explains this picture with Sterling Archer,
If I had to guess this will be how Archer meets his maker.
Well that's my team let's see the rest of the league's rosters!

BRING EM' BACK!
So first off sorry I have been so late on this post, but I have had some family issues and other stuff going on, but now I have a quick moment to blog, so here we go. I suggested this one and I find it hard to come up with a straight answer, but here we go. In difference to Cal, I would love to bring back Firefly. While I will not deny what the show was able to do in 14 scant episodes, just watching how Joss Wheadon's Buffy the vampire slayer went from interestingly watchable to can't turn off the damn DVD player in just a couple of seasons. To me the ultimate testimony to how this show evolved came from my brother who was also a Firefly fan after I showed it to him. I begged him to try Buffy, and my older less geeky guy who works in a quarry brother, only was willing to give the show a chance because he wanted to also borrow my season 1 of Smallville. He almost immediately returned Smallville, because it "sucked" and asked for season 2 of Buffy. then some of his friends ended up borrowing them and next thing I know my disks are all over town. FIrefly had very similar potential to be a great science fiction, even one that could have dwarfed Star Wars and Star Trek, it had all the elements a well defined world, great hooks and most importantly characters that you could get emotionally involved in. I always said how firefly begged to be an RPG just by the characters, in fact my brother's friend Dave, would have made a character just like Jayne, and any GM worth his salt would have treated him to just as much hell. I have even thought that a decent compromise would be to get Joss Wheadon to write a pilot and a few episodes of a new Star Trek series casting Fillion as Commadore Matt Decker, and Giving him a first officer with the last name of Slone (the name of Zephram Cochrane's assistant) granted I was inspired by this pick but damn it it could work!!
As for Brian's wish for more Buck Rogers, I hope this helps, I have heard James Crawley the guy behind the incredible (if not slow to production) Star Trek Phase two has been working on bringing Rogers back to the small screen, (unless your pc is hooked to a projector then, big screen!)
As for Big IV, I hear ya brotha' on the Captain Power, and fond this link to MTV's Geek Page marked on 3-5-2013 so mayhbe Phoenix Rising is still in the works. Let's hope
As for me, Beyond Firefly for TV I would have to want to bring back DYNAMAN!
I know if you just look at the clip above and don't hit play it looks like a week power rangers rip off, but that's quite the opposite, back in the days before the internet, viral videos were only found on show like nickelodeon's Turkey TV, and USA's Night Flight. and this was the cream of the crop. taking it's concept form the same Sentai shows that would later morph into power rangers (pun intended) the basic differences are two, one they did NOT dare replace the secret identity scenes with localized american actors (they just dubbed the hell out of the original Japanese footage) and 2, it was most definitely not designed to sell action figures to small children. involving a few Kids in the Hall Alums (most notably Mark Mackinney) the show a ritous romp through downtown Tokyo with all the wit and style of MST3000, without the need for shilloettes. plus they added American pop music for the soundtrack, nothing like hearing James Brown's living in America, blasting as a giant robot mothership goes soaring over Tokyo. This show was killed when Saban got the rights for Bandai's sentai series and put that abortion Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers on the air. Sure Kimberly was kinda hot, but so was Dynapink!! I would love to see this crew get back together and either finish the dynaman episodes they didn't lampoon or start fresh with another Sentai series (lord knows there aren't enough of them to redub!)
and now for those in the league I didn't get a chance to work into my opening monalogue-

And the cycle renews...
So recent TV news states that Matt Smith, is hanging up his sonic screwdriver and Tardis key, at the end of the current series. This is one of the most ambivalent regeneration a in my mind, because while I like Matt Smith as an actor, much of his run has been pretty crappy. Besides the worst companion to date in River Song (Seriously! worse than like 10 Adrics!), the show just seemed to put too much schmaltz in the doctor /companion relationship. As well as the almot godlike way they seemed to try to turn the doctor into a bit more of a Mary Sue in his own right. Even the set up in Tennant's last episode of the Doctor turned into an exercise in teary eyed nostalgia, and of course ditching the whole of Galifrey annoyed me almost as much as the trying to make the master a much more sympathetic character. but enough about that Matt Smith will be the Doctor no more after the Doctor Who christmas special.
So now comes the big part who will play the new doctor? Of course theories are flying even this early. John Hurt is probably one of the biggest names, and of course the ever popular speculation of the doctor swapping genders. Stephan Moffat had actually done this in the Comic Relief parody of Doctor Who, Doctor Who, and the Curse of the Fatal Death, and he caught quite a bit of hell for it. So we shall see.
As a comedian with 2 hit comedy shows under his belt, (Peep Show, and that Mitchell Webb look), Mitchell can play the Doctor adding wit and charm to the role, along with his comic irritability harkens back to the earlier Doctors, Hartnell, Troughton, and Pertwee. He is young enough to not make shocking change like say John Hurt, but is not by any stretch teen heart throb material. Here is a bit from his web series David Mitchell's soap box that may help you see what I mean.
So apparently, Jerry Doyle is a colossal douche nozzle..
So, here is the deal I have always loved Babylon-5. In my mind it was far superior to Star Trek Deep Space Nine. J. Michael Stryzinski crafted a 5 year story arc that took risks that Star Trek never could. In tng, and ds9 there were multiple promises of the heroes going rogue from the federation. the first season ender of TNG was called conspiracy parts 1&2. In which the enterprise had to "go rogue" to save the federation from an evil outside influence. 2 hours later all is well the federation has nothing but praise for Picard's actions, and no harm, no foul. In Insurrection the whole plot was about the crew rebelling against star fleets wishes. And again in under 2 hours, it is well known that the admiral who set this up was flawed, even saw the error of his ways and Picard for all his bucking of the systems, was in the right, no harm, no foul. But in Babylon 5 they had an actuall coup that did not resolve in under 2 hours, the crew didn't just get proven to be in the right and all is forgiven, it had a civil freaking war, and fallout. the show also had one of the most incredible time travel episodes of all time. Planned in first season,we wouldn't see the fruits of the set up for a couple of seasons. But it was totally worth it. part of this was due to the first season ender in which commander Jeffery Sinclair (played by the late Michael O'Hare) was mysteriously replaced by John Sherridan (Played by Tron alum Bruce Boxlietner). While rumors would fly as to why mostly about wanting a bigger name for the lead, Stryzinski had stated it was all part of the story. And as O'Hare did come back for a large 2 parter that did seem to cleaver ate this story. Truth or not, it was clear O'Hare left on good terms. Had this been a poor parting, we probably would have seen what happened with Star Trek 2 and 3, Kirsty Alley had over estimated her value to the movie franchise demanded more money, and by Star Trek 3, Saavik was being played by Robin Curtis. But in con appearances, and all other public forums there had been absolutely no bad blood, or any reason to believe that this was anything but the way the show was meant to go.
Fast forward to today, Recently J. Michael Stryzinski came forward with another version of events. Apparently now that O'Hare has passed Stryzinski came forth with the fact that O'Hare was suffering from some pretty severe mental disorders. A secret he had kept for some time apparently, O'Hare realized the show was just getting its legs, and decided to leave of his own accord. Having never heard this it was sad to know that O'Hare was so troubled, and noble that he did what he did. Stryzinski also showed some class by waiting until some time after his death. After all this really is a personal matter for O'Hare, and his loved ones. Not a spectacle for fans to pick his life apart. I for one was completely satisfied with the original he left because it was part of the character's story, and never felt the need to delve deeper. stryzinskiss big reveal dis surprise some people but people who listen to O'hare's former co-star Jerry Doyle on his syndicated conservative talk radio show, came out saying Doyle had already said as much on multiple occasions. Complaining that O'Hare was hard to work with and a "whack job." Damn. Way to stay classy Jerry Doyle. I have only listened to your show once or twice, mostly because he is on the other end of the political spectrum, from me. But I can dislike someone's politics and still respect them. But for someone to bitch and moan and air his dirty laundry about a fellow cast member's demons is total crap. This wasn't some this guy was a jerk to everyone on set scenario, the man had some personal demons, and was clearly trying to handle them considering you don't hear the rest of the cast pissing and moaning about it. this is especially funny considering that Doyle brings up his work on Babylon 5 even in the intro of the show, his damn website for the show uses the same freaking font. Listen Jerry, Sean Hannity, was in the siege with Denzel Washington, he doesn't feel the need to put that in his shows intro. It's kind of sad that you have to cling to your acting credentials when your radio show has nothing to do with science, sci fi, or even acting. So in short, while I loved Babylon 5, and even love the character of Michael Garabaldi, I have little respect for the actor who played him. Stay classy Jerry, or ,auberge get some class huh?

Speaking of good TV ideas...
The following are w great ideas for animated series that Cartoon Network/adult swim, passed on. In short I have to ask. REALLY!?! I Mean you let 12 ounce mouse and squid billies on the air, but these aren't good enough? Travesty!
Evan dorkin's Eltingville club, it's like the Big Bang theory but darker and funny.
Don't get me started on M.C. Chris, he was the funniest damn part of aquateen hunger force.

My top ten dream products that I seriously doubt will ever get made.
O.k corporate America! Prove me wrong! I would gladly throw my hard earned monies at any of these projects, but I have serious doubts that you would want to make them. Maybe it's because I am alone in my desire, or maybe you just don't wanna anyway here is my list of things I would throw my money at if some one would just freaking make!
10- Asian themed terrain (that is easy to get)
As a miniatures wargamer, this is an era that I tend to gravitate to, and finding even a small amount of terrain at decent cost is damn hard. I mean, really? look at european fantasy stuff and you can find tons, from GW made wizards towers to hobbit holes, but Samurai have to for the most part fight on open planes unless I want to track down a few obscure game companies and drop some serious coin. I just did a kickstarter for a company that looks promising, but still have not heard back from the promised "few minutes" to set up an account. GRRR!
9- Mego firefly figures.
Toys are another obsession of mine, as is firefly. And when companies recently started to repro mego's iconic designs and merge them with about every damn license they can come up with Space 1999, I Love Lucy, Married with Children (Really we needed a freaking bud bundy figure, but My desire for an 8" Malcolm, or River goes unheeded) and even the Big Lebowski getting some Mego love it blasts me that few have thought this would not sell especially considering the severe lack of figs for firefly with it's rather large fanbase. I find it hard to believe I am alone on the venn diagram between loves firefly, and collects megos!
8- Mego game of thrones figures
Same as above, I know some people have customed both but I want to BUY some, I don't have time to custom like I used to, so why not make them Django Unchained got Megos and the movie hadn't even been released yet, both of these have established fanbases!! Listen to me oh makers of fine retro figures, if you build them I will buy!!!!!
7- A remake of the playmake SDF1
With the Robotech minis game kickstarter ending over $1,000,000+ over target needed this would be an awesome product for terrain at 5.5 ft long, and made of cardboard it can't be super expensive unlike say a reissue of the USS Flagg for G.I. Joe Fans (which would probably be in the same costs bracket as the new X-box one. and the internal storage would be awesome for battlefoams, I have a feeling IF I am lucky enough to find one of these on eBay, I will be paying through the nose for it!
6- A good battletech themed Clix game
I think Wizkids completely missed the mark on this one. Mage Knight (their first game) was a unique game with a focus on small tactics. IN fact seeing as they were formerly FASA, using this game for Shadowrun minis would have been great. instead they made a shadowrun game with 6" figures, and removable gear, it flopped. It flopped because unlike their other games it was not blind packed so even if you bought the whole set (both series) you were done after $120, where the smaller heroclix and mechwarrior could have you spending easily twice that to get a set. So the smart move would be to make shadowrun a warband game with blind packs like heroclix, and for mechwarrior use the 6" model for mechs (as mechs can repainted and resold with no need to retool, and players may want multiple mechs where there is no need or reason to buy more than one individual character) then blind pack the infantry and small vehicle assets, and voila, more unique game with far more profitability. and if set at 28mm players will buy more figs as they can be used for other games. but what the hell do I know both games failed. So clearly they went the best way.
5- Star Trek :Intrepid
Simple Idea. The new Trek created a new timeline. That means everything has changed right? So a TV series about Commadore Decker's crew could be cool for so many reasons. 1- it would be cool to see a different crew, a normal crew, not the best of the best crew. 2- seeing more classic Trek and a fresh take on it would be excellent, and casting the crew from Firefly is one way to bring the fans of both. Fillian could make a great Matt Decker, and Gina Torrez as 1st officer Sloan (great grand daughter of Lilly Sloan, Zephram Cochrane's assistant from first contact) and they could even do the pilot with a more positive end to the doomsday machine bit in which in the original timeline Decker sacrificed himself after his crew died. We know the cast has chemistry, we know there are great Star Trek Writers who could put this crew into the forefront, with the possible cameos by the movie crew. seriously why would this not be awesome!?!?
4- Peepshow and That Mitchell Webb look on US DVD, or Blu Ray, or digital downloads.
Two of my favorite british TV shows and no (legal) way to get them where is the F***ing justice in this people? I am not asking to pirate it I am looking to buy legal from iTunes or Best Buy. OH COME ON PEOPLE!!!
3- Bring back M.A.S.K.
So we got GI Joe 25th anniversary, and Transformers 25th anniversary, rebuilding the classic brands. but M.A.S.K. had the awesomeness of both GI Joe and Transformers, and yet it has been relegated to one figure in the GI Joe 25th anniversary. I know make the figures bigger and the vehicles (biggest selling point of M.A.S.K.) more expensive. but even if we retool them at the new styles, it could work.
2-Barry Ween: Boy Genius, Animated!
Think Dexter's Lab meets south park. Judd Winnizk's Barry Ween was a brilliant comic that is dying to be made into a TV series on say adult swim or Comedy Central. more clever than South Park, or Family Guy, Fall on your ass funnier than The Big Bang Theory. an 8 year old with an IQ of 400+ and his hyperactive doofus best friend who normally screws things up. Honestly this needs to be made!
1- a (GOOD) Green Lantern Movie
Yup! I am beating a dead horse on this one, lucky for me I have my necronomicon handy to raise said horse from the dead sos I can beat it again! Seriously people how hard would this be to do a direct to video cartoon got it right, but your multi million dollar coke addled studio comes up with "Hey let's make Hal Van Wilder!" Then people wonder why the hell I nerd rage like I do!
